NY TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR HELMS KENTUCKY
CHRISTIAN WRITERS
Cecil Murphey to encourage, inspire budding writers
at conference
ELIZABETHTOWN, KY—For advice on
writing and publishing in the Christian market, wouldn’t you like to hear from
a seasoned professional, a man who has published hundreds of articles and over
one-hundred books?
Cecil “Cec” Murphey is that man and
will serve as keynote speaker at the fifteenth annual Kentucky Christian
Writers Conference, scheduled for June 24-25 at College Heights United
Methodist Church in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.
Murphey is a New York Times bestselling author and international speaker whose
books have sold millions of copies and have been translated into more than 40
languages. His works include the runaway bestseller 90 Minutes in Heaven (with Don Piper), which has sold more than
five million copies.
The American Society of Journalists
and Authors has honored Murphey with the prestigious Extraordinary Service
Award, and he also received the first Lifetime Achievement Award from the
Advanced Writers and Speakers Association.
During
the early days of his publishing success Murphey made a double commitment to
God and to himself. “First, I promised never to stop learning—and after 121
books I'm still learning the craft. I know I can improve. The second part of my commitment was to help other writers
improve. I'm trying to help train my successor, and teaching at conferences is
one way I accomplish that goal.”
Murphey will continue his
mentoring role at KCWC with a series of keynote addresses designed to encourage
writers. “I pass on two significant things that I remind myself of regularly: to
learn (and continue to learn) good writing techniques and to remember that the
best writing comes from within ourselves,” he said. “The more we open ourselves
to ourselves and to God, the more clearly we can articulate what we believe and
the more readily we connect with readers.”
In addition to Murphey’s
presentations, the inter-denominational conference will feature workshops and
concurrent sessions on a variety of topics, from fiction to devotionals to
writing for children. Faculty will be available for a limited number of private
appointments and will serve as mentors for writers wishing to hone their craft.
Networking and fellowship are also components of the conference, as well as a
bookstore with a variety of items for sale, including Murphey’s books.
Complete details on registration and
individual workshops can be found at www.kychristianwriters.com.
Participants are encouraged to pre-register as early as possible through the
website or through the mail. Registration for both days, with three meals
provided, is $190, while one-day registration is $105. An early bird discount will
be given to those who register by May 13, and senior and student discounts will
be applied to registrations through May 25. Walk-in registration will be
